This interesting 1898 Rast Gasser, made approximately 1915, was completed with an unusually short barrel, 3.25” in length, larger at the muzzle and dovetailed for the ejector unit. The short grip is also a rarity. Markings are otherwise similar to most military and commercial pistols in which the full serial number is on the left side of the frame and the cylinder, the last three digits repeated on the front of the ejector housing. The only other markings are on the side plate “PATENT/RAST GASSER/WIEN”, an address that is partially obscured by a transverse screw to better attach the sideplate to the frame. Fitted with two piece coarsely checkered and bordered grips. Butt has a rotatable lanyard ring.
Extremely unusual, Baby Rast Gasser M1898, factory assembled with a short barrel and short grip.
G-VG original finish with wear as carefully photographed. Lightly frosted bore with sharp rifling. Generally cycles well but will occasionally fail to cock all the way, or index the cylinder, issues that may improve with a better cleaning or require an adjustment. A HISTORIC INVESTMENT!
