Standard configuration Type Armee, Model 28, with 5” finned barrel having fixed front and rear sight. Unique flip barrel. Double action only mechanism with correct magazine made to hold spare cartridge at the base. Top of slide marked “Le Francais” in a small oval. Model notation “Type Armee” on the left side of the slide with manufacturer “MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE D-ARMES ET CYCLES DE SAINT-ETIENNE”. Major parts rust blued with beautifully case hardened trigger and release lever. European walnut checkered panels whose inserted discs retain the internally securing parts. Matching magazine with release at base numbered “6293” having seven indicator holes and spring loaded sleeve for spare cartridge.
Scarce massive and charismatic Le Francais Type Armee with finned barrel and matching spare cartridge magazine.
At least 97% bright original rust blue, with minimal evidence of use, mostly on left side of muzzle and a few flecks of discoloration on the grip straps. Comparable condition case hardening. Generally excellent grips, the left panel with a small section of checking loss at the upper left corner as photographed. Excellent matching magazine and mirror bright bore. Perfect manual mechanics. One of the most impressive and scarce large caliber pistols (unsuccessfully) by the French military.
