Phenomenal S&W 1917 Military revolver with Roy Jinks letter. Although the model 1917 was commonly issued during WWI, few survived in this exemplary condition. This 5 screw N frame revolver, with a 6-shot swing out cylinder, was fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips and a butt mounted lanyard ring. It has a 5.5” barrel with a half moon front sight and notched rear sight. In addition to the usual S&W markings, these revolvers were marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on bottom of the barrel and struck with an encircled “GHS” inspector stamp on the left side of the frame. Major components blued with a color cased hardened hammer, trigger, and lanyard ring. Apparently, despite the relatively low serial number, according to the notarized S&W letter, this revolver did not leave the factory until February 18, 1918, which likely accounts for its astounding condition.
Excellent + original condition, with minimal handling marks and a cylinder ring that barely breaks the blue. Mirror bore. Excellent condition two page notarized factory letter. It would be very, very hard to improve upon this Military revolver!
