Standard configuration, second variation Tranter revolver with 6” octagonal barrel having a drift adjustable fire blued front sight and fixed rear sight. Markings are limited to the early British proofing in the usual locations. Serial number hand engraved on the right side of the frame. “W. TRANTER’S PATENT” marking on the loading lever and the left side of the trigger. The revolver is tastefully embellished with light English scrollwork. Att the rear of the barrel, both sides of the frame, trigger guard, and tang. The base pin head, retention spring and the hammer block safety spring all show vibrant fire blue with some minor silvering. The hammer, triggers and loading lever are polished bright and the cylinder retains smoky remnants of case-hardened colors that, in some areas, have toned to a pleasant gray. One-piece walnut grip with fine checkering and engraved case-hardened cap. The original case is in near excellent condition retaining almost all of its original exterior finish with a 1” chip at the bottom left corner, some scattered light dings and handling marks. The interior is lined with green baize showing some scattered light staining and scuffs, no retailer label and holds a full complement of accessories including: mostly full japanned tin of Eley caps, James Dixon Britannia metal oil pot, one ebony-handled screwdriver, an ebony-handled nipple wrench with built-in pick, small Hawksley powder flask, nearly full japanned tin of Tranter’s lubricated bullets and lubricating compound, unmarked dual cavity bullet mould, cleaning jag, one paper cartridge, key and spare nipples.
