This first year production Winchester Model 70 Featherweight rifle in .308 has all the standard, classic features including the shorter 22″ barrel with no rear sight hump, a black anodized aluminum trigger guard, an alloy magazine cover, and an aluminum butt plate whose sides were brightly polished. All other metal parts interchanged with the standard gun. The barrel was marked on the left side in the usual manner that stipulated the manufacturer, model, and caliber, suffixed by the proof with haloed edges, repeated on the receiver that was marked with the Winchester name on the left and the serial number on the right. Walnut stock with checkered forearm and grip.
Classic Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight rifle, .308, made 1952, exemplary condition.
Metal parts with 99.9% bright, original salt blue. Comparable condition aluminum parts. Finish on stock slightly irregular in mid section, possibly from having been in contact with a plastic material that reacted with the finish. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. Overall, an exemplary and nearly new condition rifle, particularly as concerning the metal parts, especially nice as a first year production Pre 64 Featherweight!
