Extremely scarce and desirable Harrington & Richardson (H&R) Handy Gun in .22 LR with flip-up rear sight, 12.25 inch barrel, and provision for a shoulder stock.
Extremely scarce and desirable Harrington & Richardson (H&R) Handy Gun in .22 LR with flip-up rear sight, 12.25 inch barrel, and provision for a shoulder stock.
Description:
Harrington & Richardson (H&R) made very few Handy Guns in .22 caliber, as the vast majority were chambered for the .410 shotgun shell and require NFA paperwork. This example is one of the freely transferable/non-NFA pistols. It has a 12.25 inch barrel, ramped patridge front sight, and a fixed notch rear sight supplemented by a flip-up peep insert. The left side of the barrel is numbered 184 on the lug. It has a blued receiver with ‘H&R Handy Gun’ on the left side; Harrington & Richardson address on the right side. Color case hardened hammer and trigger. Fitted with a smooth forend and a checkered grip whose backstrap has been fitted with a pair of inserts suitable for mounting a skeletonized stock. On the base of the grip, the H&R address has been repeated. Reportedly, one of the last pistols of this type to have been assembled. Complete with a period canvas carrier.
Condition:
Approximately 95-97% bright original blue, most of the wear around the muzzle, oxidative flecking around the receiver and top of release lever as carefully photographed. Mirror bore, perfect manual mechanics. A scarce and very attractive Handy Gun, not to mention an interesting pistol for those that collect American-made firearms!
