Description:
Standard configuration Smith-Corona 1903-A3 rifle as made from 1942-1944, chambered in .30-06. This mid-production example having a hooded blade front sight and fully adjustable ramped peep rear sight graduated 2-8. The top of the barrel is marked “S C”/ Ordnance Flaming Bomb/ date “3-43”. Top of the receiver is marked “U.S./SMITH-CORONA/MODEL 03-A3/4736084”. Cut-off switch marked ON/OFF. The blued bolt is stamped “X’” on the top of the handle. The oil-finished, straight grip walnut stock is stamped with an ordnance wheel and a boxed “FJA”, a single encircled “P” behind the trigger guard. Unmarked checkered trapdoor buttplate.
Condition:
VG+ metal components with relatively light wear as one might expect from a military rifle that saw limited service. Cut-off switch surface “ON” polished, now in-the-white. Stock appears to have been lightly re-oiled without having been sanded. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. A nice Smith-Corona 1903-A3 rifle that should please any collector of U.S. military small arms!
