Description:
Standard configuration Prewar 6-shot Smith & Wesson 38/44 Heavy Duty Double Action 5 Screw Revolver (cal. .38 S&W Special) built on the large square butt N size frame with 4″ round pinned barrel. Half moon bladed front sight, notched rear sight. Left side of barrel marked “SMITH & WESSON.” Left side of the frame has the usual S&W logo. Right side of the barrel is marked “38 S & W SPECIAL CTG”, while the right frame is marked “MADE IN U.S.A.”Full serial number of “46719” is on butt, repeated on barrel lug, under right grip, and rear of cylinder. Matching assembly number “2791” on frame and crane. Color case hardened trigger and hammer. Fitted with matching checkered/bordered walnut grips having silver S&W medallions inlaid and diamonds around screws. Complete with original but mis-matched Blue/Gold shipping box whose labeling references the manufacturer and model of the revolver. Bottom of box with a sticker label marked “45298”. Complete with 2-page factory letter signed by Roy Jinks.
Condition:
VG/EXC bright original factory blue with light sharp edge wear as consistent with a minimally holstered revolver. Straps with light freckling, particularly the backstrap, that is also thinned. Muted case colors on hammer/trigger. Grips with light handling marks, particularly the left panel at bottom border. Mirror bore. Recoil shield showing little evidence of firing. Correct manual mechanics. VG box with moderate shelf wear/scuffing, but no separations/repairs. A very attractive Pre-War S&W 38-44 Heavy Duty Revolver with an even more desirable box!
