Description:
Standard configuration Colt Cobra .38 Special Lightweight revolver produced from 1950-1981, serial number 252077-LW, circa 1968/69, Nickel finish with 2-inch barrel and fixed sights. Serial number 252077-LW stamped on frame with matching 252077-LW on crane. Left side of barrel marked “COBRA” and “.38 SPECIAL CTG” with rampant Colt logo engraved on sideplate. Right side of barrel marked “COLT’S MFG. CO.” and “HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”. Crisp “P” assembler mark on left frame. Under the left grip, the frame is marked “INS”. Checkered unnumbered wooden grips secured with silver Colt medallions. Complete with Colt box with end label detailing Caliber (.38 Spec.), finish (Nickel), barrel length (2″) containing “Handling the Handgun” manual and factory documentation to include hang tag. Hand written serial number 252077 on outside bottom of box. The Cobra features a lightweight aluminum alloy frame with steel cylinder and barrel, weighing 15 ounces unloaded, and built on Colt’s tried-and-true “D” frame, the same as used for the Police Positive Special and Detective Special.
Condition:
EXC original finish, cylinder ring barely breaking through the nickel, no cartridge head implants on the recoil shield. Slight thinning/fading of front and back straps. Grips with blunted checkering, the right panel having a minor imperfection below the screw escutcheon. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. EXC box/literature of dubious originality.
