Description:
Standard configuration S&W Model 1917 revolver produced from 1917-1919 with approximately 153,300 manufactured in .45 ACP caliber, this a late production example with Eagle Head S24 inspection markings and without the S&W sideplate logo. Usual 5.5″ barrel with half-moon front sight and notch rear sight. The left side of the barrel is marked “S&W D.A.45” with “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” under the barrel, “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS U.S.A.” with patent dates “PATENTED DEC.17.1901, FEB.6.1906, SEPT.14.1909” on the top. Serial number “153100” appears on the butt with matching number under the barrel and on the cylinder face. Matching “11759” on inner frame and crane. “Eagle Head S/24” on inner frame, rear of cylinder, and left side of frame. Fitted with smooth walnut grips with color case hardened lanyard loop on butt. The M1917 revolvers were six-shot, .45 ACP, large frame double action revolvers adopted by the United States Military in 1917 to supplement the standard M1911 pistol during World War I, with later action in every major American conflict of the century including World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.
Condition:
EXC original blue with minimal sharp edge wear at muzzle and leading edges of cylinder, negligible firing as no suggestion of cartridge head imprints on recoil shield. Inspection markings, ordnance bomb and Eagle head, breaking finish. Slightly faded case coloring on hammer, trigger, and lanyard ring. Unnumbered grips with added varnish. Mirror bore.
