World War I U.S. Army contract Remington UMC Model 1911 pistol, cal. .45ACP, manufactured in 1918-1919 from a production run of only 21,676 pistols in .45 ACP, this example SN: 17177, with rough brushed blued finish and 5″ barrel with fixed front sight and drift adjustable rear sight. The left side of the slide is marked “PATENTED DEC 19, 1905 – FEB 14, 1911 AUG 19, 1913 (REMINGTON) – COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG CO. (UMC) MANUFACTURED BY – REMINGTON ARMS U.M.C CO INC – BRIDGEPORT, CONN U.S.A.” with a circular UMC stamp within the text block; left frame with “E.E.C.” inspector initials over SA Eagle Head. The right side of the slide with two line address: “MODEL OF 1911” and “U.S. ARMY CALIBER 45” markings with serial number “NO 17177” on the frame. Correct barrel with only “P” on top of chamber. Fitted with large diamond checkered walnut grips secured with slotted screws. Blued two-tone magazine with 5 indicator holes and integral floorplate. These pistols were purged from military inventory after WWI because they did not conform to tolerances required for interchangeability with Colt Model 1911 pistols, examples now sought after by collectors of early military automatic pistols.

Condition:

VG-EXCELLENT original blued finish with sharp edge wear, scattered handling marks (including the usual arc around slide release), and thinning of the front strap and mainspring housing as expected from a military pistol that has seen service use. Serial number and inspection markings with slight halos, breaking through the finish. Comparable condition grips. Magazine with insertional wear as photographed. Near-mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics.
