Very nice, original finish, no-excuse Colt 1911 Government Model pistol in the World War I British Series with correct dual-tone magazine marked for the .455 cartridge, deaccessioned by British Government in 1952.
Description:
Scarce Colt Government Model Pistol, SN: W72250, cal. .455 Webley, made 1915-1919 and serialed W19,000-W110,695, with 5” barrel, fixed front sight and drift adjustable rear sight. Left side of slide with usual two line Colt address/patent dates with Rampant Colt at rear. Right side of slide with a two-line “COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE 455”. Frame with “GOVERNMENT MODEL” over the full serial number. Later applied British proofing on exposed barrel hood, left side of slide, and left side of frame. Upon deaccession, the right side of the slide was marked: “RELEASED BRITISH GOVT. 1952”. Fitted with coarsely checkered walnut grips with large diamonds around screws. Correct two-toned magazine with floorplate marked “CAL .455 / ELEY”. Lanyard ring present.
Condition:
VG original pre-war Colt blue with moderate wear as would be expected from a service pistol that has been handled and holstered over an extended period. No suggestion of touch up. Comparable condition oil darkened diamond grips with minor handling marks, the checkering remaining sharp and no noticeable losses. VG dual tone magazine with lanyard loop, the marked floorplate underscoring the British .455 caliber. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics.
