Highly desirable, Military Inspected, Colt Service Model ACE in .22LR with floating chamber, made 1941, SN: SM2006, designed to be a training pistol built on the 1911-style frame. Fixed front sight with fully adjustable rear sight. Left side of slide marked “COLT’S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.HARTFORD,CT.U.S.A.” with “PATENT NUMBERS □ 2,090,656 □ 2,090,657” followed by the rampant Colt logo. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT SERVICE MODEL ACE .22 LONG RIFLE” with diamond-shaped “ACE” logo positioned between “SERVICE MODEL” and “.22 LONG RIFLE” text. Frame marked “SM 2006” on the right side. Various proof and inspection marks around trigger guard: “T and triangle VP” on left side; “69” on right side. The boxed military inspection “R.S” (Robert Spears) on left frame breaks through the blue. Magazine floorplate marked “COLT” / 22 “ACE logo” L.R. / “SERVICE MODEL”. The Service Model ACE was specifically developed to provide inexpensive training while duplicating the weight, feel and function of the Model 1911A1 pistol, utilizing an innovative floating chamber design to simulate the recoil characteristics of the .45 ACP version.
Condition:
VG/EXC original pre-war blue with sharp edge wear and light freckling, especially on the forward portion of the right slide and frame. Comparable condition grip straps and dual-tone magazine. Dark grips with minimally blunted checkering, no cracks or losses. Mirror-bright bore. Correct manual mechanics. One of the most desirable and sought-after U.S. military training pistols of World War II!
