French 1873 Revolver, Reworked 1874, SN 11, ANTIQUE, O-39
Description:
Exceedingly early Chamelot Delvigne 1873/74 Commercial Revolver with quick release sideplate as developed and marketed by Gerest of St Etienne. Standard configuration revolver with 4.5 inch octagonal/round barrel, having fixed front sight and grooved rear sight. Although the right side of the frame and one of the barrel flutes is marked with the St Etienne location and proofing, there are no other external markings on this revolver, except for the serial number “11” on the grip cap. Several of the small parts show “3” as an assembly number. Novel to this particular revolver is the quick release lever mounted on the sideplate that was purportedly developed and sold by Gerest of St Etienne. Checkered wood panels, right side secured with a single screw and escutcheon. Lanyard ring with loop at base.
Condition:
Approximately 60% faded original finish with commensurate aging of the hammer and trigger. Comparable condition grips, the left panel having a few tiny losses at the base. Bright bore with strong rifling. Excellent manual mechanics. Very unusual and early M1873/74 Commercial with quick sideplate release, seldom offered for sale, a great ANTIQUE!
