Description:
Early configuration Hungarian G98/40 World War II military rifle made at the FEG factory in Hungary in 1941, closely modeled after the German K98k, with nearly identical front and rear sights to simplify training and reissue. The top of the receiver is marked “jhv/41” the wartime code for the Hungarian FEG factory and 41 for the year of manufacture. The left receiver side wall is marked “G 98/40” and the left side of the receiver and barrel have the large German Eagle testing proof. Matching numbers on the bayonet lug, front barrel band, barrel, rear sight, receiver, bolt/associated components, trigger housing, floorplate, and matching solid wood stock with numbered buttplate, the stock also marked with a large “jhv” and a double set of E/WaA56 acceptances. This rifle is similar in function and operation to the standard K98k with nearly identical front and rear sights, making training and reissue very easy.
Condition:
Near EXC, bright original salt blue finish with sharp edge wear in expected locations. Comparable condition trigger guard and floorplate with no suggestion of touch-up. Near EXC solid wood stock with scattered handling marks and dings, the serial number and jhv marking on the lower spine deeply impressed. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. A great looking and all-matching Hungarian FEG G98/40 late WWII German military rifle with the solid wood stock and early acceptances.
