Description:
Eu.By 1944, J.P. Sauer & Sohn was devoted almost entirely to wartime arms production, its output constituting a significant share of Germany’s K98k rifles during the later stages of World War II. This particular K98k bolt-action rifle, SN: 5039o, cal. 7.92×57mm Mauser, was coded “ce”, made in 1944, and fitted with a number of stamped, sheet metal components such as the rear barrel band and trigger guard. Traditional military features include a hooded front blade sight and tangent rear sight graduated 1-20. Top of chamber with “ce/44” in association with E/37 Sauer acceptance. Full SN on rear portion, left side, of barrel; repeated in full on front and rear barrel band, all components of the tangent sight, magazine floorplate, and all components of the bolt to include knob, head, safety lever, and rear cap. The finely laminated stock is accepted with a Sauer eagle/WaA37 at lower spine. No markings on the bayonet lug, cleaning rod, bolt release or cupped buttplate. Stamped trigger guard has a Walther subcontracted E/WaA135. As barrel bands were difficult to remove and rifle was a consignment, further disassembly was abandoned. Correct leather sling.
