Classic last ditch Japanese Type 99 rifle with intact chrysanthemum, made by Tokyo Juki Kogyo, all matching, with rudimentary fixed peep rear sight, crudely manufactured components, and wood buttplate, complete with a last ditch bayonet/scabbard.
Description:
Late “Last Ditch” production Japanese Type 99, chrysanthemum present on unmarred receiver, missing the Kana markings for the “Type 99”. The left side of receiver is stamped with the symbol for the 31st block of production, the Tokyo Juki Kogyo arsenal, and the serial number “2735”. It is fitted with its original matching bolt assembly numbered “735” with a matching extractor, unmarked firing pin and safety. It has the last ditch front and rear sights and is fitted with its original hardwood stock with finger grooves, abbreviated handguard and unnumbered barrel bands. The stock, below trigger guard, has one Tokyo Juki Kogyo Arsenal inspection mark. Fitted with a last ditch wooden buttplate fixed with three nails. Complete with last ditch Type 30 bayonet with straight quillion, square pummel, and blued blade made by Toyoda Jidoshoki Seisakusho (Toyoda Automatic Loom Works) under Nagoya supervision, SN 572466, with correct wood/banded scabbard.
Condition:
VG/EXC as typical for a late war assembled Type 99 rifle retaining the majority of its original bluing over the crudely manufactured and hastily assembled parts, rife with machine marks, grinding marks, and mild oxidative etching. Stock with usual scattering of handling marks as befitting a largely neglected rifle. Comparable condition bayonet and scabbard. Though visually abysmal, the condition of this late ditch rifle and bayonet is quite high, certainly in keeping with the expectations of any collector of last ditch small arms!
