Standard configuration Type Armee, Model 1928, with 5” stepped barrel having fixed front and rear sight. Unique flip barrel. Double action only mechanism with correct magazine, this example without the spare cartridge loop and marked with an encircled “3” on the unnumbered base. Top of slide marked “Le Francais” in a small oval. Model notation “Type Armee” on the left side of the slide; manufacturer “MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE D-ARMES ET CYCLES DE SAINT-ETIENNE” on the right side of the slide. Major parts rust blued with beautifully case hardened trigger and release lever. European walnut checkered panels whose inserted discs retain the internally securing parts. Magazine with release at base having seven indicator holes.
Scarce, massive and charismatic Le Francais 1928 Type Armee with stepped barrel and correct magazine.
At least 97-98% bright original rust blue, with minimal sharp edge wear in usual locations. Comparable condition case hardening. Generally excellent but oil darkened grips. Comparable condition magazine with insertional wear as photographed. Mirror bright bore. Perfect manual mechanics. One of the most impressive and scarce large caliber pistols to have been tested by the French military.
