Description:
Standard configuration Marlin 1881 rifle with 28″ full octagonal barrel chambered in .40/60 CTF Cal. Fitted with a drift adjustable German silver blade front sight and elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates, as correct for a third variation Model 1881. “40 Cal.” stamped at the breech. Full SN on lower receiver. Accompanying factory letter confirms this exceptional Marlin Model 1881’s special order extra length 28 inch barrel in .40/60 caliber, and that it was shipped on October 16, 1883.
Condition:
VG factory original blue with moderate wear as one would expect from a commercial firearm that was used for sporting purpose on a regular basis at the close of the 19th century and into the 20th century. Lever has largely faded to a grey. Comparable condition wooden furniture with oil staining/scattered dings/handling marks but no splits or repairs. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. An impressive Marlin lever action rifle from the late 19th century! ANTIQUE!
