Desirable, original finish Civil War era Colt Model 1862 Pocket Navy revolver, .36 caliber five-shot cylinder with stagecoach holdup scene, brass trigger guard and backstrap, all matching serial number, manufactured circa 1862-1873.

Description:

Colt Model 1862 Pocket Model has the distinctive loading cut-out with hinged loading lever and five-shot cylinder engraved with the Stagecoach Holdup scene. The barrel has a brass cone front sight and the hammer has bordered knurling on the spur. The barrel and cylinder have the Colt commercial blue finish; the loading lever, frame and hammer are color case-hardened; the trigger guard and back strap are made of brass. The walnut grips have a high polish piano finish. The top of the barrel “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA” in one line. “COLTS/PATENT” on the left side of the frame and “36 CAL” is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The full serial number, “5161” is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap, under locking wedge, and cylinder below the “COLTS PATENT” marking.

Condition:

General VG condition, with barrel retaining much of its original blue, scattered handling marks, and drifting to patina. Most of the blue on the cylinder has faded to grey excepting protected areas. Dull color case hardening. Brass parts with a mellow mustard tone. Varnish grips with scattered dings and oil darkening. Dull bore. Correct manual mechanics with the cylinder nicely indexing in all positions. A nice, original, and all matching Colt model 1866 Pocket Model well suited for a Colt collector.
