Mauser C96 6-shot Conehammer, .30 Mauser, scarce later era rework, likely 1930s, in the usual 8xxx serial range, in which a 4 inch Bolo top was fitted to an existing 6-shot Conehammer frame. Standard banded front sight and slip-in rear sight graduated 50-1000. Usual chamber address with serial number on left chamber flat and Crown/Crown/U on left side of barrel extension. Full serial number on firing pin retainer, back of hammer and bolt stop. Sight bar is unnumbered. Did not remove firing pin as pistol is a consignment and retainer was proving difficult. Detailed disassembly shows all usually numbered components matched to the serial number including the trigger and each of the grips. Major parts along with the firing pin retainer appear as a salt blue dip. Most minor parts are heat treated to fire blue with the repolished bolt and trigger assembly in the white and the hammer grey case hardened. Serrated walnut grips. Original lanyard ring. Complete with an reworked/reproduction stock having original fittings from a 1930 Commercial C96.
Condition:
G-VG as reworked with redipped blue and repolished bolt. Extractor with slight bend, toned to straw. Safety lever with its original fire blue. Oil darkened grips with scattered handling marks and minor losses. Dull bore with easily discernable rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Complete with attractive but reworked stock having excellent body and lid; metal components faded with patchy oxidation. One of the scarcer, later era Conehammer reworks, this example with a factory fitted Bolo top mated to a 6 shot frame, complete with Bolo dimensioned stock. ANTIQUE.
