Excellent example of one of only 1,000 Smith & Wesson Model 1899 revolvers delivered to the U.S. Navy in 1900, representing the original production that would become the legendary Military & Police series and the most widely produced revolver of the 20th century. This 6-inch barreled, 6-shot swing-out cylinder revolver in .38 Long Colt/.38 Special features military markings including “U.S.N.” on the butt, Navy anchor symbol, “38 D.A.” designation, “No 1569” issue number, and “J.A.B.” inspector initials. Half-moon blade front sight, and grooved rear sight. Left side of the barrel marked “S.& W. 38 MIL”. Top of the barrel having the standard two line S&W address. Right sideplate having the usual S&W logo. Matching serial numbers on frontstrap, cylinder, and under barrel. Color-case-hardened trigger and hammer. Fitted with unmarked walnut checkered grips with diamonds around the screws.
Condition:
G/VG original finish with scattered dings, handling marks, and small patches of oxidation as so frequently seen on surplus Navy handguns. Comparable condition grips. Mirror bore.
