Description:
Standard configuration Izhevsk Berdan II rifle made 1870-1895, production estimated at nearly 3 million, with 33-inch barrel in 10.75 X 58 R caliber, serial number 47733, single-shot bolt-action military rifle with traditional Russian Imperial markings. Fitted with blade front sight and battle/ladder rear sight with graduated markings for range adjustment. Receiver is dated “1883” and serialed “47733”, the serial repeated on the barrel in association with Cyrillic text, all components of the bolt, and on the metal buttplate. Imperial Russian eagle / HK on the top receiver flat. Full-length, military configuration wooden stock with trigger guard, sling swivel attachments, and metal buttplate. Complete with matching cleaning rod and an unmarked sling. The Berdan rifle served as the service rifle of the Imperial Russian Army from 1870 to 1891, when it was replaced by the Mosin–Nagant rifle.
Condition:
VG original finish with the blue on the barrel, receiver, and trigger guard with handling marks and toning as one would expect from a military service rifle that is now about 150 years old. Comparable considerations apply to the in-the-white bolt with staining, the cleaning rod with patches of oxidation. Stock with areas of cleaning and light sanding, still with numerous handling marks and gouges as carefully photographed. Surprisingly bright, near mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics.
