Springfield Model 1911 U.S. Army pistol, manufactured in 1915, and likely used throughout WWI. Standard features include blade front sight and drift adjustable rear sight. The left side bears the correct three-line Springfield address marking with patent dates (April 20, 1897, September 9, 1902, December 19, 1905, and February 14, 1911) along with “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO.”, “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / U.S.A.” , and flaming bomb. Left frame with U.S. property markings and flaming bomb. The right side of the slide marked with United States seal and “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY” with the serial number on the right frame. Post WWI Springfield field replacement barrel with vertically oriented small P and S on left side of lug. Dark walnut grips secured with two screws in the double diamond checkering pattern. WWI dual tone magazine, floorplate with lanyard ring. Other features include long smooth trigger, checkered beavertail hammer, and short grip safety.
Condition:
VG original finish Springfield slide, barrel, and frame. Most of the smaller components, while comparably finished and in comparable condition, are not marked with an S and likely replacements. Grips with oil staining and blunted checkering, more so on the right panel. VG original finish World War I magazine made by Colt. Bright bore with easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics. An attractive Springfield Armory 1911 pistol, with a few replaced small parts and a Colt manufactured magazine.
