Standard configuration Smith & Wesson Model 38 DA double action Safety Hammerless top break revolver in .38 caliber, serial number 531, factory nickel finish, with 3.25″ barrel, fixed front sight and fixed “V” notch rear sight. Top of barrel rib marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS U.S.A.” followed by patent dates. The serial number “531” is on the rear of the cylinder, below the barrel extension, and on the bottom of the frame. Fitted with mother of pearl grips, each panel with “gold” S&W circular medallions. This early 1st Model revolver, SN: 531, places it in the manufacturing period from 1887-1901 with serial range 1-5250, allowing ANTIQUE status!
Condition:
VG factory original nickel finish with sharp edge wear and handling marks as one might expect from a pocket-sized and carried revolver after over 100 years. The right side of the frame with spotted losses between the grip and recoil shield. Comparable condition blued trigger guard with fading of the case-hardened trigger, particularly over the face. Seldom used as conferred by the minimal cartridge head imprinting on the recoil shield. EXC mother-of-pearl grips. Bright bore with minimal oxidation and sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. ANTIQUE!
