Description:
Standard configuration S&W Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change revolver with 6-inch barrel, featuring the characteristic half-moon front sight and notched rear sight on the top strap. Left side of barrel marked “SMITH & WESSON”; top with Springfield, Mass. manufacturer address and patent date references (Oct. 8, 01, Dec. 17, 01, Feb. 6, 06, Sept. 14, 09, Dec. 29, 14); right side marked “38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG” between decorative flourishes. Five-screw frame construction (four screws holding the sideplate and one at the front of the trigger guard). Diamond-checkered walnut grips with S&W medallion, numbered to match the revolver. Six-shot fluted cylinder with matching serial number 293734, repeated under the barrel, on the butt, and penciled inside the right grip. The frame and crane have assembly number (440).
Condition:
VG/EXC with bright original blue finish showing slight muzzle wear, negligible sharp edge wear elsewhere. Action is tight with proper timing and lockup. Careful inspection of recoil shield shows minimal to no casehead impacts. Mirror bright bore with sharp, well-defined rifling. A very high, all original S&W Model 1905 4th Change Revolver seldom encountered in such high condition.
