Standard configuration Old, Old Model Russian a.k.a. S&W Model 3 Russian 1st Model, chambered in .44 Russian, this nickeled revolver SN:10270 having an 8 inch barrel with half moon blade front sight and U-notch rear sight. Top of barrel marked ” SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT. JULY. 10.60. JAN. 17. FEB. 17. JULY. 11. 65 & AUG. 24. 69. RUSSIAN MODEL”. Full serial number on butt. Barrel, cylinder and dismounting latch marked “828”. Fitted with smooth walnut grips. Lanyard loop present. Factory letter detailing shipment in 1872, confirming caliber and grips but no information available on the finish.
Condition:
VG+ with flaking in usual contact areas to include around muzzle, leading edge of cylinder, under trigger guard, and edges of front/backstrap. Comparable toning of the color case hardened hammer. Smooth walnut grips with oil staining and light handling marks. Bright bore with easily discernible rifling. A nicely presenting S&W Model 3 First Model Russian revolver in .44 Russian with factory letter!
