Fantastic, all original example of an early S&W Army Model 1917 Revolver with 5.5” barrel having half moon front sight and notched rear sight. Manufacturer and caliber marked on left side of barrel. Top of barrel with patent reference. “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” marked under barrel. Inspector marking on left upper frame. Matching assembly numbers of mating surfaces of frame and crane. Full serial number under barrel, back face of cylinder, and on butt that is additionally marked “US ARMY MODEL 1917”. Lanyard ring present. Fitted with smooth walnut panels. Major components blued with color case hardened hammer, trigger, and lanyard ring. Complete with page from U.S. Army ordnance manual.
Condition:
99+% bright original blue with trace muzzle wear and just the faintest cylinder ring that barely breaks the blue. Excellent grips, the left panel having a pressure dent near the base. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. A superb and early S&W .45 ACP Military revolver from WWI whose condition would be nearly impossible to upgrade.
