Exceptional Cased Pair of Colt Third Model Derringers, fully nickeled with smooth ivory grips in leather bound case with 6 original cartridges.
Description:
The Colt Third Model Derringer in .41 caliber, produced from 1875 to 1912, is a compact, single-shot pocket pistol known for its sideways rotating barrel, spur trigger, and bird’s head grip. Early models, manufactured before 1899, typically feature a “COLT” barrel marking, finely lettered with serifs, as on this example. Designed for discreet personal defense, this derringer remained popular through the early 20th century, valued for its powerful .41 rimfire chambering and easily concealable design. Each of these two guns are fully nickled except for the color case hardened hammer and fire blued screws/trigger. The left side of each frame is marked with the caliber and the serial number appearing under the ivory grip. Complete with leather presentation case fitted for the pair of pistols and 6 loaded cartridges, the lid securing with a rotating brass clasp.
Condition:
EXC original finish with minimal handling marks on each pistol, serial number 38454E having a few more flecks of finish loss on the left side of barrel near breech. Both with mirror bright bores and correct manual mechanics. VG/EXC case with age/discoloration of exterior and faded purple interior.
