Description:
This is a standard configuration WWII K98k rifle manufactured by the Berlin Mauser factory in 1940 complete with bayonet and frog. The rifle has a standard front sight and a military style tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters. The chamber is factory coded “243” and dated “1940”. The left side of the barrel has a single “Eagle 26” acceptance proof with left side of both the receiver and barrel having a large a single “Eagle” acceptance. The left side of receiver marked with the block style “Mod. 98” markings. The rifle is fitted with a standard wartime laminated handguard and stock that is fitted with matching buttplate. The rifle has all matching components to include the forward barrel band, trigger guard and floor plate and bolt, except for the safety lever that is unnumbered and Sauer-accepted. Complete with cleaning rod, WWII brown leather sling, and blued WWI bayonet, marked “1920/15X” on the right, and “S.Bt.I.335.”/Manufacturers information on the left. Manufacturers information on the frog, as well as a “1928” date code.
Condition:
VG+ original condition with wear that is consistent with a battle rifle that saw moderate use during the last five-six years of the second world war. Comparable condition stock, with no suggestion of sanding or touch up. Bright bore, light oxidation, sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. The bayonet from WWI, surrendered in 1920, was arguably reworked, the scabbard and later issue 1928 dated frog in VG condition.
