Relatively scarce Colt 1911A1 Prewar Commercial Government Model pistol with matching slide and Swartz safety, Cal .45 ACP, 1 of 500 pistols issued to the Argentine Navy in 1941. The pistol is a standard Prewar Commercial Government model with fixed front sight and drift adjustable rear sight. The left side of slide marked with two line address referencing Colts location and series of patents. The right side of the slide COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 45 suffixed by rampant Colt with the right side of the frame market GOVERNMENT MODEL overlying the serial number. As true for the Argentine Navy contract pistols upon receipt the top of the slide was marked with the Argentine crest while the right side of the slide was panto-graphed: REPULICA ARGENTINA/ARMADA NACIONAL-1941. Fitted with usual coarsely checkered walnut grips. Fixed lanyard ring at the bottom of mainspring housing. Blued magazine with pinned floorplate marked COLT 45 AUTO.
Condition:
VG original Prewar Colt blue with sharp edge wear, speckling, handling marks, and frontstrap thinning as befitting a service pistol that has seen moderate use. Comparable condition grips that are oil darkened with diamond blunting. Bright bore, light erosion, easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics. An attractive and entirely original Colt Prewar Government Model as used by the Argentine Navy.
